Paste a byte count. Read it in every unit, decimal and binary.

Quick answer

123,456,789 bytes is 123.456789 MB decimal and 117.737569 MiB binary. Paste any byte count and the formatter writes it in KB through PB, and in KiB through PiB.

When you have only the integer

Metrics, object listings, and log lines often print a raw byte count. Dividing in your head by 1,000 three times gets you near a decimal gigabyte. Dividing by 1,024 three times gets you near a gibibyte. They are not the same number, and the formatter shows every step so you can match the tool that produced the integer. For a single hop, the byte to MB converter is the shorter page.

How the short form is chosen

The short form picks the largest decimal unit that is at least 1, and the largest binary unit that is at least 1. 1,500 bytes is 1.5 KB and 1.464844 KiB. 500 bytes stays in bytes, because neither kilobyte is a whole unit yet. The full table is still underneath.

KB converter

The formatter starts from bytes. If you have a figure in KB, multiply by 1,000 (or by 1,024 for KiB) and paste the byte count, and every other unit appears at once. For a single KB hop there are dedicated pages: KB to MB, KB to GB, KB to bytes and bytes to KB.

File size calculator

Use it as a file size calculator when a log line, an upload limit or an object listing prints a raw integer. Check the decimal and binary columns against the tool that produced the number, then read the one that matches.

Questions

How do I turn bytes into MB and GB?

Divide by 1,000,000 for decimal megabytes and by 1,000,000,000 for decimal gigabytes. Divide by 1,048,576 for mebibytes and by 1,073,741,824 for gibibytes.

Can I paste a number with commas?

Yes. Commas and spaces are ignored. Scientific notation such as 1.5e9 works too.

Is the number sent anywhere?

No. Formatting runs locally in the browser.

How do I convert KB to MB and GB at once?

Type the size in bytes: KB × 1,000, or KiB × 1,024. For example, 1,500 KB is 1,500,000 bytes. The formatter then shows the same size in MB, GB, TB and the binary units together. For a plain KB number, the KB to MB converter and KB to GB converter are shorter.
